The elastic recoil cross sections of Li-6, C-12, O-16 and F-19 by Cl-3
5 below the incident energy of 10 MeV have been measured by the invers
e scattering method. About 10(17) Cl/cm(2) BaCl2 vacuum-deposited on 1
mu m DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) was used as a target. During the irrad
iation the target showed good stability. The Cl isotope effect has an
influence on the recoil cross section of less than 0.5%. In the useful
energy region for quantitative analysis by elastic recoil detection,
the measured recoil cross sections agree with the Rutherford's values
within a few percent. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
