Thind Sk",chanpreet, mridula, EFFECT OF FLURIDONE ON FREE SUGAR LEVEL IN HEAT-STRESSED MUNGBEAN SEEDLINGS, Plant growth regulation, 22(1), 1997, pp. 19-22
Germination per cent and growth of ML 267 and ML 131 cvs of mungbean (
Vigna radiata Wilzec) seedlings was adversely affected by high tempera
ture stress (42 degrees C). Pre-sowing seed soaking in fluridone (flu)
significantly increased germination per cent and seedling growth at b
oth normal and high temperatures. Total free sugar accumulation was si
gnificantly increased under stress and Flu pre-treatment significantly
increased it, both at 30 degrees and 42 degrees C. Enzyme activities
of alpha- and beta-amylases were found correlated with increased accum
ulation of sugars under stress. Flu pre-treatment partially ameliorate
d the effects of heat stress.
