Abstract
The spin-1/2 antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on an L x n(c) (n(c) i s even) lattice with periodic boundary conditions is studied in the fr amework of a variational approach. It is shown that the upper bounds o f the spin gap of the ladders with any width n(c) decrease as (4n(c) - 2)/n(c)(2). (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
