Many psychological phenomena involve 2 individuals whose actions, thou
ghts, or feelings are interdependent, Psychologists' usual research me
thods assume independence of observations, hence they are ill-suited t
o illuminate these dyadic phenomena, In this article, the authors revi
ew some dyadic research methods: a round robin research design and a s
ocial relations statistical model, They also explain how to use these
methods and describe a few substantive applications, The article focus
es on significance tests for round robin data, The authors report comp
uter simulations that compare the round robin significance tests curre
ntly in use to a within-group t test they are proposing, Results indic
ate that all of these significance tests adequately control Type I err
ors, but that the authors' new test has pou er advantages over existin
g tests.
