We applied the conduction band envelope-function Hamiltonian allowing
for position-dependent effective mass, weak non-parabolicity terms and
spin-orbit interaction to the intersubband transitions in a symmetric
(001) III-V quantum well based on the lattice matched materials. The
matrix elements of the normal-incidence optical transitions were prove
d to be very small. Our results obtained in a plain analytical form ar
e in quantitative agreement with those of semi-empirical numerical cal
culations.
