A. Skoglund et al., A CLINICAL AND HISTOLOGIC EXAMINATION IN HUMANS OF THE OSSEOUS RESPONSE TO IMPLANTED NATURAL BONE-MINERAL, The International journal of oral and maxillofacial implants, 12(2), 1997, pp. 194-199
The purpose of this study was to assess the osseous response to implan
ted par-tides of an anorganic xenograft bone mineral, Bio-Oss, in sin
patients with severely resorbed alveolar ridges. The observation perio
d varied between 9 and 44 months; in five of six patients, long-term b
one regeneration around the implants was observed. Histologic examinat
ion of biopsy material obtained from the graft area showed Bio-Oss par
ticles still present in all patients after the varying observation per
iods. This raises the question whether Bio-Oss may be regarded as a re
sorbable material, as previously reported.
