Abstract
Decision making for improved performance, at all levels of systems man agement from a simple process to the complexities of the company struc ture, can be viewed as an optimization paradigm. Information systems, process knowledge (models) and decision systems constitute the foundin g blocks of an effective process systems management structure. It is e xpected that as more systems understanding is incorporated into manufa cturing decision practices the mills will perform closer to their inhe rent capabilities.
