Abstract
The preparation and characterization of sol-gel composites fur fluores cent detection of solvents (using dansyl-labelled beta-cyclodextrin) a nd Al3+ ions (using Morin), and for colourimetric detection of Cu2+ (u sing Eriochrome Cyanine R) is described. The active roles played by bo th the entrapped reagent and the sol-gel matrix in the sensing process es are discussed.
