An x-ray spectroscopic determination was made of the distribution of t
he plasma electron temperature T-e(x) in a channel formed by the inter
action of a nanosecond laser pulse with a dense gas target. The distri
bution T-e(x), combined with the plasma channel parameters measured ea
rlier, could be used to develop and check the validity of a theoretica
l model of the observed effect.
