Relationships between total ozone resp. ozone at the lower stratospher
e and meteorological parameters are investigated using the Hohenpeisse
nberg data (1967-1995). Regression analysis revealed the strongest (ne
gative) correlation to thickness 300/850 hPa. The strength of the rela
tionship and the slope of the regression lines are dependent on season
. Both decrease with increasing altitude; the relationship disappears
near the ozone maximum. It is tried to eliminate the influence of mete
orology on ozone using the regression equations in question. The trend
also was eliminated. The periods following the eruptions of El Chicho
n and Pinatubo are investigated in this way. Although the ozone defici
ts after both eruptions are partly created by meteorological condition
s, there is a further ozone deficit probably caused by stratospheric (
sulphate) aerosols.
