A field experiment was conducted at Morena during 1991 and 1992 to stu
dy weed control in Indian mustard [Brassica juncea (L.) Czernj. & Coss
on] with isoproturon applied at variable doses during preplanting, pre
-emergence and post-emergence. Isoproturon at 1.0 kg/ha applied as pre
-plant and preemergence caused significant reduction in weed dry weigh
t, showing 83 and 81% weed-control efficiency respectively. This treat
ment also gave significantly higher grain yield, 1,000;grain weight an
d branches/plant than unweeded control and herbicide at lower doses ap
plied at either of the stage. Unchecked weed growth lowered seed yield
by 34%.
