Abstract
The cardinal B-splines B(j,n,)j is an element of Z, of order n form an orthonormal sequence in the Sobolev space H-n-1,H-2(R) endowed with t he norm parallel to f parallel to(omega)(2)(n) := Sigma(mu=0)(n-1)omeg a(mu)(n)parallel to partial derivative(mu)f parallel to(2) for certain positive weights omega(mu)(n). These weigtlts are specified explicitl y. Further, an application to approximation theory is discussed.
