Three ferrocene derivatives, D-Fc-R(1), D-Fc-A(1)(2) and D-Fc-A(2)(3)
[D:(C18H37)(2)N-C6H4-CH=Ch, R:CH2OH, A(1):CHO, A(2):CH=C(CN)(2)], were
designed and synthesized, and their electrochemical and spectroelectro
chemical behaviors were studied. All these compounds show two redox pr
ocesses. Both of the redox processes for 1 are reversible. The first w
ave of 2 is reversible and that of 3 is quasi-reversible when the elec
trode potential is scanned only in narrow range of the first wave. D-F
c(+)-R and D-Fc(+)-A(1) show strong LMCT hands at 613 and 705 nm respe
ctively, suggesting that they might be good at redox switching of opti
cal properties.
