Gc. Appiani et al., PHYSICAL TREATMENT OF HORIZONTAL CANAL BENIGN POSITIONAL VERTIGO, European archives of oto-rhino-laryngology, 254(7), 1997, pp. 326-328
In recent years many methods of physical therapy have been proposed fo
r the treatment of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo due to otolith
ic debris in the horizontal semicircular canal, All these methods have
attempted to promote displacement of debris from the canal to the utr
icle. This paper reports our experiences with maneuvers advocated by L
empert and Vannucchi et al, Eighteen patients suffering from benign pa
roxysmal positional vertigo of the horizontal canal were evaluated in
the present study, All seven patients treated with the Vannucchi maneu
vers resolved their vertigos. Tea of the remaining patients were manag
ed with Lempert's maneuver and reponded successfully. The physical the
rapy used failed in only one patient, Current experience has shown tha
t both maneuvers are particularly valid and efficacious.
