The dispersion model, obtained starting from the pollutant conservatio
n equation and the stochastic nature of the wind speed fluctuations, t
akes into account the pollutant dispersion along the wind 9direction.
From the statistical point of view, we conclude that for the case of a
continuous point source there is no significant difference between th
e predictions of the Gaussian plume and dispersion model. Excepting th
e theoretical background, the dispersion model has the advantage of us
ing just three dispersion coefficients, instead of the four parameters
required by the Gaussian plume model. Moreover, while the Gaussian pl
ume is useful just for a continuous source, the dispersion model can b
e used to estimate the pollutant concentration for multiple sources, b
oth continuous and instantaneous.
