Abstract
Environment becomes more and more a great preoccupation for population but also for politic and scientific instances. Evaluation of its qual ity or damage must follow a well-established procedure. This review de velops the different aspects of this procedure of evaluation and demon strates its limits. In a second part, alternative predictive tools of environmental quality or damage are explained: biomarkers and bioindic ators. Main indications of these biological tools are reviewed. Some b iomarkers are described.
