This publication offers an overview of sheep breeding in Belgium in it
s present status. It also shows its evolution over the last twenty yea
rs. Furthermore comparisons with the European and world ovine breeding
are presented. The main aspects studied concern the production and th
e market progression both at the national and European levels. The int
erest of double muscled animals 'breeding is clearly demonstrated, and
especially the potential of better carcasses, for their interesting a
spects in the development of our country's ovine breeding market.
