Kj. Hwang et Wm. Lu, HYDRODYNAMIC ANALYSIS ON THE MECHANISM OF CROSS-FLOW FILTRATION OF POWER-LAW SLURRY, Journal of Chemical Engineering of Japan, 30(4), 1997, pp. 698-705
The mechanism of cross-now filtration of power law slurry is studied t
hrough a hydrodynamic approach. The trajectories of particles in the f
iltration are analyzed in order to estimate the mass flux of particle
deposition on the filter septum. An agreed tendency is found between t
he calculated results of particle flux and the experimental data. A dy
namic simulation method based upon the continuity equation of cake com
pression and the differential-form filtration equation of power law sl
urry is proposed. By substituting a set of experimental data of filtra
tion rate vs. time into the iteration procedures, the local cake prope
rties and their variations during a course of cross-flow filtration ca
n be simulated. The calculated results of average cake porosity and av
erage specific filtration resistance agree very well with the experime
ntal data.
