A newly fabricated T-shaped disk-edge field emitter is considered. Num
erical results are presented for a unit cell, consisting of emitter, g
ate and anode. A new algorithm, the finite-difference method in a non-
orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system, is used for the simulation.
With the boundary-conforming coordinate lines, this method can efficie
ntly deal with microemitter shapes. The dependence of the field enhanc
ement factor on geometrical factors and the I-V characteristics are pr
esented. Suggestions are given to determine the geometry in fabricatio
n.
