Jh. Theis, OCCULT RATE OF HEARTWORM INFECTED-DOGS IN CALIFORNIA APPEARS TO BE SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER THAN THAT OF INFECTED-DOGS FROM FLORIDA AND TEXAS, Canine practice, 22(2-3), 1997, pp. 5-7
A total of 586 dogs from three states diagnosed with heartworm by an a
ntigen test were examined simultaneously by a polycarbonate-acid phosp
hatase histochemical staining technique. The results of this study sho
w that the occult rate of heartworm infected dogs differs markedly in
California from those in Florida and Texas. While the Florida and Texa
s dogs had occult rates of 30 and 32%, respectively, the California do
gs had a rate of 9%.
