The authors emphasize the wide range of the reform of mental health se
rvices in Russia during the las decades. The essence of these changes
is a transition form the directive, drug-oriented psychiatric care to
a comprehensive, humanistic and psychotherapeutic approach in Russian
psychiatry. The analysis of the authors shows that new methods for the
integration of psychotherapy and medical psychology in psychiatry can
only work with new organizational structures such as specialized psyc
hotherapeutic departments and consulting-rooms. An adequate comprehens
ive and integrative treatment model for mental disorders of the psycho
tic spectrum could be found in the conception of Gunter Ammon's Dynami
c Psychiatry. The Russian Psychotherapeutic Association has begun to i
ntroduce the concept of the Dynamic Psychiatric Hospital Menterschwaig
e in three great Russian psychiatric hospitals. At the first stage, th
ree psychotherapeutic departments in these hospitals in different part
s of the country and preliminary selection and training of specialists
for this work are in preparation. The practical issues of this projec
t are being resolved jointly by the Russian Psychotherapeutic Associat
ion and the German Academy for Psychoanalysis.
