Abstract
Simulator tests of a new type of series capacitor, controlled by thyri stor switches, are described. The structure of the control system and the components of the real-time simulator used for the tests are prese nted. Test results show performance for switching transients, ac fault s, power-swing damping events, and subsynchronous resonance conditions .
