Abstract
The properties of three different types of activated carbon, fibrous, powdered, and granular, were investigated theoretically and experiment ally. The adsorption rate of the activated carbon fiber was found to b e two orders of magnitude higher than that of the granular activated c arbon, and one order of magnitude higher than that of the powdered act ivated carbon. Diffusion coefficients of methylene blue in the fibrous , powdered, and granular activated carbons were determined experimenta lly. A new method for estimating the meso- and macropore surface areas in these carbons was proposed.
