CHEMICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ATMOSPHERIC AEROSOL IN RURAL SITE OF LITHUANIA

Since 1980, daily samples of atmospheric aerosol have been constantly taken in Preila which represents the rural site of Lithuania. Concentr ations of such chemical components as SO4(2-), NO3-, Cl-, H+, NH4+, Na +, K+, Ca2+ and Mg2+ have been determined. A statistical analysis of t he observed concentrations is presented in the paper. A seasonal varia tion is typical of the major aerosol components. The alteration of dai ly concentrations of chemical components is discussed in conjunction w ith meteorological conditions. Air masses from western Europe have bee n concluded to bring the greatest amount of anthropogenic pollutants t o Lithuania.
