Abstract
The trend of coal production and the related methane emission to the a tmosphere from the mining activities in India is presented. The estima tes of emission have been found to increase from 0.06 million tonnes t o 0.40 million tonnes between the year 1951 and 1991 and may further r ise to 0.60 million tonnes by the turn of the century.
