The purposes of this study were to assess the natural history of isola
ted fetal supraventricular tachycardia and to evaluate the role of con
servative management without medical therapy in the absence of hemodyn
amic compromise. Spontaneous resolution of supraventricular tachycardi
a occurred in eight of nine fetuses followed expectantly with serial e
valuations. These data suggest that the spontaneous resolution of isol
ated fetal supraventricular tachycardia may be a common occurrence. Al
though conservative management may prove to be a reasonable option for
fetuses with isolated supraventricular tachycardia, this approach mus
t be balanced against the lack of reliable predictors for the developm
ent of hemodynamic compromise.
