In this paper a new separation technique is proposed to determine the
forward and backward running waves in elastic conduits. This method is
based on the knowledge of the wave velocity, which is estimated by ta
king into account the non-linear effect introduced by elasticity of th
e wall and the normal periodicity of the cardiac cycle. In the separat
ion analysis, we lake into account friction as well as non-linear effe
cts due to convective acceleration. The results obtained are compared
to the classical linear method and to the previous methods.
