The validity of the Kolmogorov refined similarity hypothesis (RSH) is
tested experimentally in the mixing layer and in the return channel of
a large wind tunnel, at R(lambda)approximate to 2.0x10(3) and 3.2x10(
3), respectively. The energy dissipation rate is estimated from the lo
ngitudinal gradient of both the longitudinal du/dx and transverse dw/d
x Velocity components, and the results are in good agreement with RSH
in both cases. (C) 1997 American Institute of physics.
