Abstract
A recently proposed lattice gas model for simulating surface waves at a free boundary is described in detail. Simulated waves are compared t o linear theory and are seen to compare well, provided an additional p arameter epsilon is introduced. This parameter, epsilon, is investigat ed and found to be required due to the density gradient produced acros s the fluid by the gravitational interaction. Its value and the values of the other model parameters are found for a range of gravitational strengths. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.
