Abstract
The acute and nonacute effects of a 12-week, 3 day/week strength train ing program on LBL cholesterol and HDL cholesterol in 62 sedentary wom en (age=42.8) were studied. The effect of age and changes in body fat, saturated fat Intake, abdominal fat, and muscular strength on the str ength training/blood lipids association were A pretest, dual-posttest experimental design was employed, and subjects were randomly divided i nto two groups. Following the intervention, lifters showed a significa nt decrease in LDL cholesterol compared to controls on the second post test. HDL levels did not differ across the study. Control of the poten tial confounders did not affect the results.
