Abstract
The conclusion by Anderson and Vander Meer (1993) that the red importe d fire ant (Solenopsis invicta Buren) has magnetic orientation is unac ceptable for two, jointly compelling reasons: (1) We could not replica te their experimental results, and (2) Anderson and Vander Meer's argu ment, that a magnetic field induced change in the latency to trail for mation is evidence for magnetic orientation, is logically flawed.
