Abstract
Microinjections of the irreversible dopamine antagonist EEDQ ( N-ethox ycarbonyl-2-ethoxy-1,2-dihydroquinoline), into nucleus accumbens but n ot into dorsal striatum, markedly decreased response rates on a fixed interval schedule of reinforcement. These preferential effects in nucl eus accumbens could be prevented by selectively activating either D-1 or D-2 receptors. These data demonstrate a critical role for mesolimbi c dopamine systems in the mediation of fixed interval schedule-control led operant behavior. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
