Abstract
The scorpionfish Rhinopias cea, an apparent close relative of R. argol iba from Japan, is described from a single specimen collected at Easte r Island. It is distinct in having 18 pectoral rays, 56 scales in long itudinal series, no skin flaps on lower jaw, no supraorbital flap or t entacle, and the fourth dorsal spine longest, 2.6 in head; it is brown ish orange-red in life, finely mottled with pale and blotched with dar k brown, the most conspicuous markings two dark blotches on body above pectoral fin.
