Me. Prokhorov et Ka. Postnov, DIRECT OBSERVATION OF THE KICK DURING THE BIRTH OF A NEUTRON-STAR IN THE BINARY PULSAR PSR B1259-63, Astronomy letters, 23(4), 1997, pp. 439-444
The observation of the circumstellar disk around the Be star SS 2883-a
n optical component of the binary radio pulsar PSR B1259-63-which is i
nclined to the orbital plane strongly suggests that the supernova expl
osion in this binary system was asymmetric. The kick velocity gained b
y the neutron star during its birth is shown to be greater than 50 km
s(-1).
