Phytosociological surveys in citrus orchards of the Gharb region of Mo
rocco were carried out on 108 agricultural plots in winter and again i
n summer. A total of 216 weed species belonging to 47 botanical famili
es was recorded, Annual (76%) and Mediterranean (54%) species were pre
dominant and characterized the vegetation, The density and frequency o
f 29 species made them potentially harmful to citrus crops, especially
the 10 species that were geophytes. Edaphic factors, such as soil tex
ture and soil pH, were the most significant in explaining the distribu
tion of weed species in the area studied. By means of correspondence a
nalysis it was possible to identify three homogeneous groups of specie
s.
