Abstract
Heated controversy has arisen over the advisability of making recovery of traumatic memories a central intervention strategy in psychotherap y for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. This article addresse s why such an approach can be deleterious, discusses alternatives to m emory-focused treatment, and presents core strategies for facilitating self-management of intrusive recall in order to promote client autono my and empowerment.
