STEPWISE EVALUATION FOR THE IDENTIFICATIO N OF SUNFLOWER VARIETIES

One of the most important tasks facing the National Institute for Agri cultural Quality Control (Orszagos Mezogazdasagi Minosito Intezet, OMM I) is the evaluation and description of plant varieties. The identific ation of sunflower varieties is carried out in two main steps. The fir st preliminary evaluation in July is followed by a second evaluation i s autumn. The paper provides information on the identification of sunf lower varieties and describes the computer programme package used in t he DUS testing of sunflowers. The reliability of the preliminary evalu ation in connection with the final evaluation in autumn is also discus sed. A method is introduced, with the aid of which DUS distinctness ev aluations made under different circumstances are comparable.
