The effect of applying an electric field on the M-J levels of the R(1)
feature (v=17255.684 cm(-1)) in the A Omega=0(+)-X-1 Sigma(+) band sy
stem of (YbO)-Yb-174 has been examined using the technique of high res
olution laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy. The results were used
to obtain values for the permanent electric dipole moments, mu, in th
e X-1 Sigma(+) and A Omega=0(+) states of 5.89+/-0.02 and 5.93+/-0.04
