The establishment of a captive breeding programme for Livingstone's fr
uit bats Pteropus livingstonii at the Jersey Wildlife preservation Tru
st is a high priority as part of a conservation strategy for this enda
ngered species. In order to facilitate the capture of bats, a system o
f rigging using aluminium poles to set nets above the height of the ca
nopy was devised. This Has developed and used successfully during the
JWPT Comoros expeditions of 1992, 1993 and 1995. Details of the design
and method of use are presented.
