PERFORMANCE OF AN EXTERNALLY PRESSURIZED RECTANGULAR GAS BEARING UNDER CONSTANT EFFECTIVE RECESS PRESSURE

The present study predicts the performance of an externally pressurize d rectangular recessed gas bearing under different operating condition s. The analysis makes use of simplifying assumptions and an empirical formula which relates the recess pressure to the bearing supply pressu re. A comparison between the theoretical results obtained and availabl e experimental data shows qualitative agreement. There are some deviat ions in pressure distribution and load-carrying capacity especially at greater film thickness and supply pressures. The reasons for these de viations are discussed.
