HEPATOTOXICITY OF FLUTAMIDE

Flutamide is an antiandrogen and frequently used for the treatment of metastasized prostatic cancer. It is predominantly combined with an LH -RH-analog. Severe hepatotoxicity occurs in few patients but may be fa tal. We report on two patients with metastatic prostate cancer who rec eived flutamide and an LH-RH-analog. They showed variable degree of li ver hepatotoxicity and recovered after with drawal of flutamide. The l iterature concerning tile metabolism of flutamide and the published ca ses of hepatotoxicity of this drug are reviewed.
