W. Wessels, MYOCRICETODONTINAE FROM THE MIOCENE OF PAKISTAN, Proceedings of the Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen, 99(3-4), 1996, pp. 253-312
This paper describes the muroid Myocricetodontinae from eight H-GSP lo
calities of the Lower Manchar Formation in Sind (Pakistan). Of the ele
ven species belonging to five genera, one genus, Sindemys, and one spe
cies, Sindemys sehwanensis, are new. The subfamily Myocricetodontinae,
which is considered a sister-group of the Gerbillinae and Taterillina
e, includes eight genera: the extinct Myocricetodon, Mellalomys, Dakka
mys, Shumalina, Punjabemys and Sindemys n. gen. and the extant Mystrom
ys and Calomyscus. It is shown that the Myocricetodontinae have a larg
e geographic distribution, from Pakistan to S. Africa, and occur since
the Early Miocene.
