Abstract
Successful outcome with damage control procedures requires aggressive management of metabolic derangements in the postoperative phase. immed iate concerns are continued resuscitation, restoration of hemostasis, normothermia, correction of acidosis and coagulation disorders. Return to the operating room must be planned and complications anticipated, especially abdominal wound difficulties. Vigilance must be maintained to minimize missed injuries.
