T. Cronberg, THE FEELING OF HOME - RUSSIAN WOMEN IN THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY AND THE TRANSFORMATION OF THEIR IDENTITIES, European journal of women's studies, 4(3), 1997, pp. 263
We know a great deal about what happened to the defence enterprises of
the Soviet Union after the Cold War. We know something about what hap
pened to the scientists employed in these enterprises and R&D faciliti
es. We know very little about the women who worked in the defence sect
or, the women who defended their children by producing armaments. The
article is about these women and how they saw their work. It is about
identities in transition. The identities of Soviet women working for t
he defence of their country are being reshaped into new Russian identi
ties, whether that of a housewife or an entrepreneur in the commercial
sector.
