Abstract
This paper briefly reviews the technology trends in digital electronic s, mixed signal electronics and photonics as an alternative to electro nics. These trends are examined in order to determine their impact on the embodiment and manufacture of electronics and related products to determine key areas for future work in packaging, assembly and manufac turing technology. The paper also includes novel mathematical models t hat allow the effects on underlying manufacturing technology trends to be explored, including the effects of the application of ASICs.
