Abstract
Erythromycin production dynamics in stirred, baffled shaken and non-ba ffled shaken flasks was strongly correlated with the different distrib utions of hyphal particle diameters observed. Production only took pla ce when hyphal fragments with diameters greater than 88 mu m were obse rved. Results are consistent with significant hyphal breakage rates, e ven in non-baffled shaken flasks.
