Advances in digital processing and economical transducers open new opp
ortunities for high-quality sound capture in reverberant and noisy enc
losures. In particular, signal processing for sizable arrays of microp
hones can provide spatial selectivity in three-dimensions, and mitigat
e the effects of multipath distortion acid interfering sources. As an
anniversary tribute to Professor Manfred Schroeder, this report summar
izes recent studies on multiple beamforming and matched-filter arrays
for applications in teleconferencing and human/machine communication.
