Abstract
Thyroid storm (thyroid crisis) is a rare and serious complication of t hyrotoxicosis with a significant mortality rate if left untreated. Ear ly recognition of the syndrome with a thorough history and physical ex amination is therefore essential. The exact mechanism for this decompe nsation is unknown; however, many physiologic stressors can precipitat e the crisis. This report describes an unusual case of a previously un recognized thyrotoxicosis developing into a storm in a pediatric patie nt manifesting as refractory shock.
