Abstract
The development of new approaches to improve breeding efficiency of tr opical forage grasses is of great importance. The most recently develo ped techniques to study the type of apomixis and to establish the mode s of reproduction in progeny of apomictic plants i.e.: callose deposit ion test, clearling methods, intact embryo sac analysis, flow cytometr y, molecular approaches and the methods of classiacal light and transm ission electron microscopy are described and discussed. Cytological an d functional aspects of apospory with following aposporous parthenogen esis, and diplospory in grasses are highlighted.
