An all-optical optoelectronic oscillator is demonstrated in which a no
vel Brillouin-selective sideband amplification technique is used to pr
ovide sufficient gain far the oscillator to start and sustain electro-
optic oscillation. Such an oscillator can generate high-frequency, hig
h-spectral-purity, tunable microwave signals in both optical and elect
rical domains beyond 100 GHz. (C) 1997 Optical Society of America.
